Avoiding medication before butt implant surgery
Nowadays more and more people are interested in enhancing the appearance of their rear end with the help of plastic surgery. The unsightly appearance of the buttocks can occur due to genetic inheritance, a sedentary lifestyle, but also trauma to the butt. Butt implant surgery is a procedure that can be performed on both men and women with a high success rate. It often lasts no longer than a couple of hours and is generally performed with the patient under general anesthesia. But before undergoing surgery to augment the buttocks, the patient is required to go through a preparation stage during which certain medication is to be avoided.
Why is it important to avoid medication before surgery? Well, you should know that certain pills, as well as natural supplements, can interfere with the anesthesia and could also trigger complications during and after the procedure. This is the reason why your plastic surgeon will advise you not to take medication that was not discussed and cleared during the pre-operative consultation for at least two weeks to a month before the procedure is scheduled. Not following this recommendation could cause complications, so if you take by accident any of the following medications in the month or weeks before surgery, make sure to let the plastic surgeon know as he might decide to reschedule your procedure.
- Birth control pills
Birth control pills help you avoid unwanted pregnancy. However, when taken before plastic surgery, they could trigger the formation of blood clots. This is the reason why the plastic surgeon will ask you to stop taking birth control pills a month before the procedure. Make sure to use other birth control methods as the procedure can’t be performed if you are pregnant. Birth control pills can be resumed in the month following the procedure, according to the doctor’s recommendations.
- Anti-inflammatory medication
Certain anti-inflammatory medication will thin the blood and could cause excessive bleeding during surgery, especially medication that contains aspirin. Anti-inflammatory medication should be avoided two weeks before the procedure. If you have a headache or other condition that would require the use of anti-inflammatory medication, make sure to contact the plastic surgeon before taking it if it occurs within two weeks before the surgery date.
- Natural supplements
While some natural supplements can be recommended by plastic surgeons before the procedure (e.g. Vitamin C), many others are to be avoided as they might trigger complications due to their effects on the body. Supplements with garlic and turmeric, for example, have also blood thinning properties and could cause excessive bleeding during surgery or the recovery period. If you have questions about natural supplements that you might be taking, make sure to discuss this with the plastic surgeon during the pre-operative consultation.
