The booty plays an important part in defining the physical beauty and self-esteem of women. Poorly contoured, loose, saggy, smaller, flatter, or distorted buttocks can be a source of dissatisfaction and lower self-esteem for many women. Since modern beauty standards call for the buttocks to be prominent, firm, shapelier, and voluptuous, many women have no reliable choice but to go under the knife to revamp their booties.
One of the popular plastic surgery procedures to enhance the buttocks is the butt lift or the traditional butt lift surgery. The traditional butt lift is not the same as the Brazilian butt lift. They are two different procedures used to treat different aesthetic problems in the buttocks. In this article, we will discuss the steps of the traditional butt lift.
The traditional butt lift
Drooping skin on the buttocks can be very intimidating, especially for women who are image-conscious. Some people have the tendency to develop saggier skin in the buttocks than others. Also, factors like aging, gravity, weight loss, pregnancy, and certain illnesses can trigger the growth of saggy skin in the buttocks. As a result, the patient may experience lower self-esteem. Saggy buttocks can also easily contract an infection in the skin folds. Physical discomforts are also common in saggy buttocks.
Also popularly known as traditional butt lift or excisional butt lift, butt lift surgery involves the removal of skin from the buttocks. The procedure is normally recommended for patients who have developed excess skin in their rear ends due to factors mentioned above. The excisional butt lift is very effective in treating buttocks that have developed hanging skin.
There are many patients who seek the traditional butt lift for all the wrong reasons. If your buttocks are mildly saggy, you do not need the traditional butt lift. Instead, the Brazilian butt lift or butt implant surgery can be used to treat the condition. The traditional butt lift is used in cases where the buttocks are excessively saggy and hanging.
In order to qualify, you need to be in the best of health. The risks associated with the surgery are greater than those associated with Brazilian butt lift because the former involves surgical excision of the skin. If you have serious health problems like diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, a blood disorder, or autoimmune disorder, be sure to bring this to the knowledge of the plastic surgeon during the consultation. Also, keep your aesthetic goals and expectations realistic and reasonable.
Steps of the surgery
The traditional butt lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia. After the surgery, you may be required to stay overnight in the hospital so your health can be monitored. During the butt lift surgery, your plastic surgeon will place an incision on the butt and remove the excess skin in the upper areas of your buttocks, which will help lift and tighten the skin.
If there is excess fat and/or tissue in the buttocks, the surgeon may also remove them if it is deemed necessary. After removal of the surplus skin, fat, and tissue, the remaining skin will be re-draped, repositioned, and tightened to provide you a youthful and energetic appearance. The underlying muscles may also be tautened and the sutures placed deep in the tissue, so your buttocks are held in a suspended position. The incisions would then be closed.
The results of the traditional butt lift surgery would not be completely noticeable immediately after. The results will gradually evolve over the next few weeks or months as the postoperative swelling disappears and the buttocks heal.
Depending on your aesthetic goals and condition of your buttocks, your surgeon may recommend you to go for a combo procedure of butt lift and butt augmentation via implants or fat transfer. After the butt lift procedure, your buttocks will appear firmer, tighter, and voluptuous. If the procedure is combined with buttock augmentation, your buttocks will also increase in size, which will further enhance your physical appearance.
Depending on your aesthetic needs, your surgeon may perform an upper butt lift, place an incision through the top of your buttocks and remove the excess skin, fat, and tissue. Alternatively, the butterfly butt lift involves an incision from the middle fold of the butt going upwards. The other two options include removing unwanted tissue from the base of the buttocks and placement of incision on either side of the butt. Be sure to discuss the incision type with your surgeon ahead of the surgery.
The Brazilian butt lift is different from the traditional butt lift in that the former is performed to increase the size of the buttocks to a moderate degree and reshape the buttocks for a younger, perkier, and sexier appearance. Unlike the butt lift surgery, the Brazilian butt lift does not involve removal of skin from the buttocks. Instead, it involves fat transfer to the buttocks to achieve the desired goals. Also, it does not involve incisions. The fat is removed from the patient’s own tissues, processed for purification, and then transferred to the buttocks via special needles.
The traditional butt lift is used to treat patients who have extremely saggy skin. Having loose and hanging buttocks can result in lower self-esteem for the patient. The condition can make you appear aesthetically unwelcoming and unpleasant. The good news is that the traditional butt lift, which should not be confused with the Brazilian butt lift, can effectively treat the condition, making your buttocks firmer, youthful, and toned. During the procedure, the excess skin, fat, and tissue are removed from the buttocks and the remaining skin is re-draped and sutured.
The steps of the traditional butt lift have been discussed in detail above. If you are considering the traditional butt lift, be sure to consult only with a board-certified plastic surgeon.
