The fat transfer surgery, more popularly known as the Brazilian butt lift, is a widely used plastic surgery procedure. Every year, hundreds of thousands of women undergo the procedure to enhance their booties. The surgery involves the use of the patient’s own body fat to add projection and shape to the buttocks. The fat is first removed from the fat donor sites like the abdomen and flanks, processed, and then injected into the buttocks.
There are many patients who want to know how much fat can be injected in each butt during the fat transfer procedure. It is important for patients to ask the surgeon how much fat will deliver them the desired aesthetic results. The amount of fat that is injected in each butt depends on a number of factors, such as the availability of fat in your body, your aesthetic goals, your surgeon’s preference, and the specific aesthetic flaws in your buttocks.
The volume of fat injected in the buttocks
The volume of fat injected in each butt during the fat transfer procedure depends on different factors; however, patients should bear in mind that the ultimate volume of fat injected in the buttocks is not equal to the total volume of fat removed from the body. In order to understand how much fat would help you achieve the desired results, it is important to understand what the procedure involves and how the fat is removed.
The surgery, which is performed under IV sedation or general anesthesia, involves the use of liposuction to remove the fat from the fat donor sites. If you have no excess fat in your body, you may not qualify for the procedure. Liposuction involves the use of a hollow tube called a cannula to remove the fat from the target areas.
There is a limit to the amount of fat that can be removed from the body during a single session of liposuction. Crossing this limit can result in fluid imbalance in the body, which can trigger health complications. The plastic surgeon will make sure not to extract more than the limited volume of fat from the body. If your goal is to achieve bigger buttocks, you may need more fat injections, which would necessitate multiple liposuction sessions. Most patients achieve their desired aesthetic goals with the injection of 550 to 650 cc of fat in each butt. However, depending on your goals and aesthetic flaws, it can be more or less.
After removing the fat from your body, the plastic surgeon will process the fat in a centrifuge. The impurities, dead fat cells, fluids, and impaired fat cells will be removed during the processing. This means the final volume of fat injected in each butt would be lesser than the total fat removed from the body. This means the surgeon may inject about ½ or 1/3 of the total fat into your buttocks.
It is critical to use only the best quality and healthy fat cells in the buttocks. Injecting injured or dead fat cells would not help you achieve the desired aesthetic improvements. Once the fat cells are injected into the buttocks, they need blood flow and nutrients to survive and develop. The vascularization process would take about two weeks to occur. This means your buttocks will not show the aesthetic improvements immediately after the surgery.
According to one study, the average volume of fat injected into the buttocks during the fat transfer procedure is 580 cc in each buttock. The average age of the patients undergoing the procedure is 37 years, and the average weight is 150 pounds.
Factors affecting the volume of fat required for each butt
How much fat will be injected in your buttocks depends on your aesthetic goals, in addition to the aesthetic flaws in the buttocks and volume of donor fat available. If your goal is to simply improve the shape of your buttocks instead of increasing the size, the fat volume required for each butt would be lower. On the other hand, if your primary goal is to increase your butt size, you would need more fat in each butt.
Furthermore, if you are undergoing the fat transfer procedure to treat sagginess or asymmetry in your buttocks, the volume of fat required would be different. If your buttocks are extremely flat or smaller, you would need more fat to enhance them. If the fat available in your body is not enough to deliver the desired results, the surgeon may recommend butt implant surgery or a combo of butt implants and fat transfer.
There is also a probability that your body would reabsorb some portion of the fat injected in each buttock. This is more likely if the fat extraction, fat processing, and/or fat grafting has not been properly performed. If the body reabsorbs some part of the fat, the patient may require touch-up fat injections to make up for the lost fat.
Also, the patient’s weight after surgery will affect the achieved outcomes. The patient will be required to maintain a stable weight after the surgery because weight loss will lead to the disappearance of the achieved results. Weight loss will affect the fat in the buttocks in the same manner as it does the fat in other parts of the body.
The fat transfer procedure is a popular surgery to enhance the buttocks. The procedure can add projection and enhance the shape of the buttocks. It can also correct butt sagginess and asymmetry. The average volume of fat that can be injected in each buttock is 580 cc. The required fat volume can be more or less depending on your goals and the specific aesthetic flaws in your buttocks.
