Butt augmentation is an effective and popular plastic surgery procedure to improve the aesthetic appearance of the butt. If you have flatter, smaller, poorly shaped, mildly saggy, or uneven buttocks, butt augmentation will help you overcome the condition. The procedure involves the use of your own body fat or prosthetic devices called implants to enhance your booties.

Butt implant surgery involves incisions on the butt. Unlike implant surgery, fat transfer does not involve incisions on the buttocks. The fat is transferred to the butt via needles. However, no matter which procedure you undergo, you will be required to avoid sleeping on your butt and sitting for the first two weeks following the surgery.

What to expect during the recovery period

The primary recovery period after butt augmentation is two weeks; however, full recovery will take six weeks. The exact time required for you to heal properly depends on your healing speed and quality, which differs from patient to patient. The first two weeks following the surgery are particularly crucial.

During this period, you’ll be required to spend most of your time resting in bed. Physical activities are not allowed during this period; however, slow and short walks every few hours is encouraged to help prevent potential blood clotting.

During the first 24-48 hours following surgery, you may experience some degree of pain and discomfort in the butt and the fat donor site (in case of BBL). This can be contained with pain relief medications. Be sure to take your medicines on time so the pain can be controlled before it could become worse. However, most patients experience mild or no pain at all after the surgery.

After the surgery, your body will be swollen and bruised. The swelling is a natural reaction of your body to the surgical trauma. It indicates that your body’s natural healing process is in action. However, if the swelling goes beyond the surgery site, you should contact your surgeon. The swelling may remain with you for a few weeks or months.

As your body heals over time, the bruising will gradually subside and you will appear and feel normal. You may ask your doctor to prescribe medications to contain the bruising.

Sitting after surgery

After surgery, you will be required to avoid sitting and applying pressure on your butt. In case of fat grafting, the fat cells injected in your butt are very weak and in need of blood flow. Your body will take about two weeks to establish blood supply to the fat cells.

Sitting during this period will apply undue pressure to your buttocks, which will damage the fat cells or trigger wound opening in case of implants. If this happens, not only will the achieved aesthetic results reverse but also health complications may arise. You can start sitting after two weeks; however, make sure to place a rolled towel under your hamstring muscle to ward off the pressure on your buttocks.

Sleeping and resting

You will be required to avoid resting or sleeping on your backside. This is also for the reason that the incisions may open up and trigger complications or the fat cells will be damaged or injured as a result of the application of pressure during sleeping or resting.

For 2-3 weeks, make sure to sleep and rest on your front or side. This will allow enough time for the fat grafts to get blood supply and become stronger and for the incisions to heal and the implants to settle. After two weeks, you may start to sleep and rest on your backside.

Bending and stretching the body should also be avoided during the first 2-3 weeks following the procedure. Since liposuction has been conducted on the fat donor sites, you need to make sure the incisions remain intact and heal properly. Stretching your body may result in wound splitting. Also, bending can hurt your butt and damage the fat cells during the first two weeks.

It is also important to mention here that in case of BBL, the extracellular matrix tissue, which is made of a network of cells and protein, supports the blood vessels that hold the fat cells together and alive. It can be damaged as a result of bending and stretching; therefore, you should avoid these physical activities until the structure becomes stronger over time.

Using the restroom

The first 2-3 days following the surgery are very crucial. Using the restroom is unavoidable; however, you must be very careful as to not apply more pressure on the butt and damage the fat grafts. You may sit when using the restroom; however, be sure to avoid sitting for long periods. Also, try to avoid more pressure on the butt when using the restroom. After two weeks, you can use the restroom without any concerns.

The recovery period of butt augmentation involves risks and potential complications. Being careless when using the restroom during the first two weeks can lead to major aesthetic complications.

Conclusion

In order to achieve the desired aesthetic improvements in your butt, you must take proper care of yourself after butt augmentation surgery. The recovery period, which may last for a few weeks, is particularly important. The aftercare and recovery tips provided above will help you have a smooth recovery; however, you must be sure to ask your plastic surgeon for tips to have a quick, safe, and smooth recovery period. Be sure to avoid sleeping on your back and sitting during the first two weeks following the operation. Also be careful when using the restroom.
