A few years ago, buttock implant surgery was the dominion of celebrities only. Now the trend has seen a spike, with thousands of ordinary women undergoing butt implant surgery to get bigger, sexier, and shapelier booties. The surgery involves placement of highly durable, semi-solid silicone implants that add projection to the booties.
Women with flatter or smaller behinds are increasingly going under the knife to make their butts appear fuller and voluptuous. Doing so not only enhances their physical beauty but also boosts their self-confidence. After the procedure, they are able to identify with the modern trends of physical beauty.
While buttock implants come with a number of benefits, there are many shortcomings associated with the procedure. Women considering the surgery must take the limitations of butt implant surgery into consideration so that they can make informed decisions.
In order to understand the limitations of butt implant surgery, it is important to understand the implants and technical angles of the surgery.
The butt implant surgery
Many women feel aesthetically unappealing and emotionally distressed as a result of smaller, flatter, asymmetrical, saggy, or poorly shaped behinds. They find a solution in a butt implant – a prosthetic device made of semi-solid silicone material. Butt implants are different from breast implants in that the former is highly durable and solid, which makes it immune to ruptures. The implants come in different shapes and sizes.
The surgery involves placement of incisions on the buttocks. The implants are inserted inside and positioned in the designated pockets. The implant can be placed under, within, or over the gluteal muscle. In most cases, it is placed within the gluteal muscle. In the last step, the incisions are closed and sutured.
While butt implant surgery delivers permanent and effective results, many surgeons prefer not to use it because they believe the procedure is inferior to autologous fat transfer – another procedure for buttock augmentation. There are a number of factors that make butt implant surgery less attractive than fat transfer.
There is no doubt that the risks and complications associated with buttock implant surgery are higher than that of fat transfer procedure. There is also a greater risk of infections. While minor to moderate infections can be contained via oral and IV-administered antibiotics, major infections may require removal of the butt implants.
There is also a limitation when it comes to the results of butt implant surgery. The results of butt enhancement via implants do not appear as natural as that of fat transfer (Brazilian butt lift). If you are very image-conscious, you may feel that the touch, feel, and movements of the butt after butt implant surgery are not so natural.
Your butts will particularly appear fake if you get very large implants. An implant size that does not fit your physique and body outline will make your butt look like separate entities in themselves, instead of making them appear as parts of your body. It is important, therefore, to ask your plastic surgeon to recommend you a buttock implant size.
Scarring is yet another major limitation of buttock implant surgery. Unlike fat transfer that does not involve placement of incisions, the butt implant surgery is not possible without incisions. The incisions will develop into scars a few weeks after the surgery. While the scars will be strategically placed to hide them and they will fade over time, they will never completely disappear. This is often a turn-off factor for many patients.
Another limitation of butt implants is that they are prone to potential shifting or displacement, particularly during the recovery period. Application of pressure may move the implant to a different position, which will make your butt appear asymmetrical or weirdly shaped.
Furthermore, there is a risk of capsular contracture in the case of butt implants. The scar tissue (capsule) that normally develops around the implant after the procedure may start contracting and squeeze the implants. This will not only change the shape of your butt but also create physical pain for you. In such a case, it would be necessary to have the implants removed.
Butt implant surgery is very costly, which is yet another limitation for many patients. While the exact cost of butt implant surgery varies from doctor to doctor, you should do your homework and plan you budget accordingly before the surgery. Be sure to discuss the cost of the procedure with your surgeon.
Recovery after buttock augmentation is yet another limitation that turns off many patients. The procedure involves longer downtime and more discomfort and care. After the procedure, the patient will be required to avoid doing physical activities for at least three weeks. Moreover, you’ll be required to take at least two weeks off work for recovery. You will not be able to engage in strenuous physical activities for at least five weeks following the surgery.
Buttock implant surgery is an effective procedure to enhance the butt. However, there are a number of limitations and shortcomings associated with the surgery. Patients are therefore advised to avoid rushing for the procedure. Instead, you should do your homework, consider all the limitations against your aesthetic goals and the procedure’s benefits, and discuss the procedure with your plastic surgeon before deciding to go under the knife.
The limitations of butt implant surgery explained above will help you make a better decision. If these limitations are not acceptable to you, you should steer clear of butt implants. Instead, you should discuss alternative options with your plastic surgeon.
