Generally speaking, all plastic surgery interventions come with its own risks and complication, but chronic diseases, for example, exponentially increase of these risks. People suffering from diabetes, arterial hypertension, pulmonary afflictions, malnutrition, severe depression, and obesity are not the ideal candidates for any type of plastic surgery.

However, this does not mean that they cannot undergo surgery. It is just that they must choose their plastic surgeon carefully and make sure they let the surgeon him know about their helath condition and medical history during the initial consultation.

Who is not an ideal candidate for buttock augmentation surgery

Aside from people suffering from chronic diseases, excessive alcohol drinkers and smokers are also discouraged from getting the buttock augmentation procedure. At least not until they have abstained from drinking and smoking before the surgery. If you are a smoker, your plastic surgeon will recommend that you quit smoking at least two weeks before and after the surgery to avoid any complications and for faster healing and recovery. You should also know that smokers have a higher risk of infections, wound dehiscence, and necrosis, not to mention the skin problems that can occur due to the lack of oxygenation at the incision site. There are studies that clearly show that patients who smoke can develop skin necrosis 15 times more frequently than patients who do not smoke.

So how does the ideal candidate look like?

The ideal candidate for buttock augmentation is one who does not smoke, is in good mental and physical condition and generally lives a balanced and healthy life.

Your expectations can also determine if you are a good candidate for buttock augmentation surgery. You need to be realistic, and you need to understand that the role of the plastic surgeon is not to change your life completely. You also need to know that not everything is a bed of roses when it comes to plastic surgery. The risks in the procedure are always present. There will always be a level of post-operative pain and discomfort, and there are also the potential complications that you need to consider before deciding to undergo surgery.

If you do not fulfill all these conditions, again, it does not mean that you cannot undergo surgery. It is just an indication that the risk of post-operative complications to occur increases. We also often recommend to our patients to consider some lifestyle changes before scheduling the date for the intervention.

What we need to know before scheduling the buttock augmentation procedure:

From the very first meeting with your plastic surgeon, you must discuss and provide him with the essential details of your condition. The surgeon must be made aware of:

– Your medication, including all supplements or vitamins;

– Hormones treatments (birth control pills or estrogen substitutes);

– Anti-inflammatory medication currently taken, if any.

All these medications can interfere with blood coagulation or with other medication that will be prescribed by the surgeon after the surgery thereby increasing in the surgical risk.

What is buttock augmentation?

The buttocks augmentation with own fat is an intervention recommended for people who have an adequate fat deposits in one or more areas of the body, but not in the buttock area. This intervention is also called butt lipo-filling and is less invasive than the buttocks implants. The intervention requires the harvest of own fat and reinjecting it in the buttocks in order to provide a more appealing silhouette and contour.

Buttock augmentation can also be performed using silicone implants. These are different from the breast implants in terms of texture and consistency. There are cases that patients that will need a combination of the two methods for their buttock augmentation procedure. For example, the plastic surgeon might use the gluteal implants to provide projection and correct the flatness of the buttocks and then use the patient’s own fat transfer to the buttock in order to give it a nicer shape and a more natural look and feel.

The fat transfer to the buttocks is less painful than the gluteal implants surgery and the recovery period is not as long. A prerequisite for this kind of procedure is for the patient to have adipose deposits in other parts of their body. This might be a problem for thin or petite patients who do not have a lot of fat cells.

When is the procedure recommended?

The buttock augmentation is recommended for both men and women who have the following conditions:

– Disproportionate size of the buttocks vis-à-vis the rest of the body;

– Suffering from low esteem due to their appearance;

– TFlat and unattractive butt shape;

– Atrophy of the buttocks muscles.

As we have mentioned before, it is recommended that the patient to be in a good health condition before undergoing the surgery. It is a well-known fact that a healthy body recovers much faster from any surgical intervention than an unhealthy and weak body.

Conclusion

The ideal candidate for the buttock augmentation procedure, whether it involves the use of be silicone implants, fat transfer or a combination of the two methods is an individual in good physical and emotional condition, who, preferably, does not suffer from any chronic diseases and lives a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

Lifestyle choices such as smoking or excessive alcohol drinking can have a negative impact on the results of the surgery, and they can also exponentially increase the risk of potential complications during and after the surgery. Your plastic surgeon might recommend you to change or avoid some medication in order to be able to undergo surgery.
