Buttock enhancement has become very popular to women, who have small, flat, poorly shaped, moderately saggy, and asymmetrical buttocks, and dream to increase the size, correct any imperfection and contour their rear ends. Fortunately, the buttocks can be enhanced by doing the insertion of buttock implants or through autologous fat grafting.
One way to do buttock enhancement is through the placement of prosthetic devices into your buttocks. The other option is the fat grafting procedure, wherein excess fat is removed from different areas of your body and injected into your buttocks. These two procedures will increase the size of your butts and make it appear aesthetically attractive.
Both buttock enhancement procedures involve the placement of incisions. In the buttock implant surgery, the incisions are done on the butts as the entry point of the implants, while in the fat transfer procedure, tiny incisions are placed on the fat donor sites for extraction of the excess fat. But no incision on the butt is required in the fat transfer method because the fat is transferred via a special syringe.
Like any other surgeries, and because an incision or two will have to be done, the butt enhancement procedures also leave behind scars, however, its size and visibility will depend on the depth and width of the incisions. The scars are completely unavoidable in any type of surgery, it will gradually fade and become less visible as time passes by, however, it will not completely disappear. In this article, we’ll take a detailed look at the post-surgical scarring after a buttock enhancement.
What is butt enhancement scar?
In a buttock enhancement surgery, scars are likely to form to some degree even if your plastic surgeon will be prudent in the incisions, or use his experience and skills to minimize it. Scarring occurs due to the body’s natural reaction to heal any injury on the skin and soft tissue, like the incisions applied during the surgery.
The scar is basically a dense and slumping connective tissue rising out of the skin whenever the skin encounters an injury. In case of a buttock implant surgery, the scarring is quite extensive, and it will take several months for a scar to form and many years to fade. Scars that develop after a butt surgery, are solid and reedy and it can be pink or pale colored though in some cases, it can be less protuberant beyond the skin. If this is the case, you are lucky because it does not cause such a huge problem.
Scarring after autologous fat transfer to the butts
Fat transfer or Brazilian butt lift has become a popular plastic surgery method for butt augmentation in the US because it doesn’t leave behind any scarring on the buttocks. The fat transfer procedure involves fat removal from localized areas of your body through liposuction and injection of the processed extracted fat into the butts.
In the liposuction procedure, tiny incisions are placed on the fat donor sites for extraction of the excess fat. Some common fat donor sites are the flanks, sides, abdomen and thighs. Since tiny incisions are placed on these fat donor sites, tiny scars will develop few weeks or months after the procedure.
The extracted fat is transferred to your buttocks using special needles so there is no need for an incision. Only the scars from the liposuction of the fat donor areas will develop but it will also be hidden in the natural create of the skin, to make it barely visible.
Scarring after buttock implants procedure
The buttock implants procedure is carried out by placing a set of durable, semi-solid silicone implants inside the booties. To insert the implants inside the buttocks, your plastic surgeon will place relatively bigger incisions in the fold between the cheeks of your butts. But depending on your needs and preferences, the incision may alternatively be placed on the outer areas of the buttocks or at the base of the gluteal fold.
The extent of the incision will always depend on the size of the implants, but in most cases, a 5-6 inches long incision is placed on the butt. The buttock implants can either be placed below or above the gluteal muscle, and this can also determine the extent of the post-operative scarring. The incisions will gradually heal over a period of 6-8 weeks, during which you will be required to avoid sitting or applying pressure on the butts.
While the incisions will be hidden in the buttocks, scarring will form. Depending on your aesthetic goals, additional incisions may be required to more contouring of the butts. Any part of body where incision is done will form a scar, so incisions placed for the implants and contouring of the butts will leave behind scars, too. The extent of the development of scars varies from one person to the other Though the post-operative care can also affect the extent of scarring. The scars will gradually fade to become less visible but will not completely disappear.
These scars can be in red color for up to six months after surgery but eventually will fade into a fine white color. If you are fair-skinned, you will barely notice the scars. But for those with darker skin tones, it may take longer for the scars to lighten up, but it will fade sooner or later. The use of a doctor-approved scar cream can help to improve the scars and the effects can be noticed after few months after your procedure.
Unfortunate as it may be, scarring is unavoidable after any surgical procedure, because of the placement of incisions on the skin. It is our body’s natural reaction to any trauma and cut on the skin, which results in the formation of scars. When it comes to butt enhancement procedures, scarring is relatively more extensive in butt implant surgery. The fat transfer procedure involves tiny scars at the fat removal site, while the buttock implants generate scars at the sites of incisions on the buttocks. However, in most cases the incisions are carefully placed, so the scars are hidden.
