While butt implants can boost the aesthetic appearance and quality of your derriere, there are a number of complications linked with the surgery. The procedure involves the use of an artificial implant, which is made of solid silicone, to add projection to and enhance the shape of your buttocks.

The first complication that may occur is implant displacement or migration. The risk of this complication is greater in case the implant is very large or has been placed above the buttock muscle. Implant displacement or migration occurs when the silicone butt implant changes position or moves from the implant pocket to another position.

When implant displacement happens, your buttock shape and size will change. Your buttocks may even appear abnormal. In order to correct the condition, you will be required to undergo a corrective surgery, which will involve repositioning the implant. The chances are the implant will be placed within or below the butt muscle during the revision surgery, so the displacement doesn’t recur.

The second complication is an infection. After the procedure, there is a greater risk that the surgical area may contract infections. If a deep tissue infection happens, it will affect the implant as well. If your doctor thinks the condition cannot be contained via oral or IV antibiotics, you will be required to have the implants removed during a recovery procedure. Of course, you may choose to get new implants in future.

Capsular contracture is yet another complication that may occur after the butt implant surgery. The condition happens when the scar tissue (referred to as capsule) starts to contract. The contract ultimately squeezes the implants, changing its shape and creating physical pain for the patient. In order to get relief, the patient will be required to undergo a revision surgery to have the implant and scar tissue removed.

Next, there is a risk that your buttocks may appear abnormal after the procedure. The likelihood of this complication is higher for patients who opt to go for an implant size larger than what their butt dimensions can accommodate. Overly large implants that do not complement your body profile will look abnormal and weird. Your buttocks will appear like separate entities instead of appearing as an extension of your body. To treat this condition, you will be required to replace the existing implant with an ideally sized butt implant that is suitable for your body.

Implant rippling and palpability are yet other complications associated with butt implant surgery. These complications occur when the butt implant’s edge is visible through your skin, and you may even feel the implant upon sitting. Again, it happens due to getting overly large implants and having the implants placed over the gluteal muscle.

In order to avoid this condition, tell your surgeon to place the implants below or within the gluteal muscle. If you are having implant palpability or rippling, it can be remedied with a corrective surgery that would involve changing the position of the implants or removing and replacing the implants with smaller ones.
