The Hourglass butt augmentation Procedure
Hourglass butt augmentation surgery is a high volume fat transfer procedure to the buttocks and hips, and a famous signature technique of the renowned Dr. Cortes. The hourglass buttock augmentation is a procedure developed by Dr. Cortes and it creates the most coveted body type popularized by big-name celebrities. The 2 objectives of this procedure are, to wit: increase the size of the buttock by performing liposuction to harvest the fats from the abdominal flanks, lower back, upper back, thighs, and injecting these processed donor fats into the buttocks; and to provide a better hip to waist ratio for an hourglass shape. If you are considering an hourglass butt augmentation with Dr. Cortes, this description will provide you with a basic understanding of the procedure, explain how the procedure is performed, tell you what to expect after surgery, give you basic recovery information, and address the most commonly and frequently asked questions. After reading in toto, you will be able to appreciate that this
procedure is more than just a buttock augmentation…it is a total body transformation!
The difference between the Brazilian butt lift and hourglass butt augmentation
The Brazilian butt lift is a surgical intervention commonly known as autologous fat transfer procedure designed to dramatically improve the projection of your buttocks. With the hourglass butt augmentation, Dr. Cortes not only increases the projection of your buttocks but also enhances the shape and curves of your buttocks. Changing the shape of your buttocks is the most challenging part of the procedure since there are different types of buttocks. Anybody can create a sexy side-butt that offers an enticing projection and curve to the derriere but not everybody can change the body shape into a full hourglass shape exemplified by narrow waist, wide and full hips and rounded, perky butt as viewed from the front and back. This is where artistry and experience plays an important and consequential role. In addition to the hourglass butt augmentation, Dr. Cortes will inject fat in the hips. This is an additional
anatomical area that is addressed with this procedure to create the hourglass shape from the front view and back view.
Who is the best candidate for an hourglass butt augmentation?
The best candidates for this procedure are patients with excess fats in certain areas like the back, abdomen, flank sides, thighs, etc. As point of reference, if you wear an 11 to 12 dress size, you are ideally suited for the hourglass butt augmentation. If you are thin and wear a dress size ranging from 2 to 4, you will not be a good candidate for this procedure simply because you do not have enough fats for fat transfer. Do not get discouraged if you are a thin patient. There are other options. A thin patient needs to gain from 10 to 20 pounds before the procedure. If this is not possible, a buttock implant can be a viable option. Just like in any plastic surgery, the patient should have realistic expectations about what this procedure can and cannot do. Aside from having enough excess fats to enable fat transfer, other critical factors like your skin tone and skin elasticity will ultimately determine how well your skin retracts after liposuction as well as the butt projection that you might get. Your age is not a major consideration but do know that the older you get, the less elastic and looser your skin is and you may not achieve the same results compared to a younger patient with tighter skin.
Overall, you must be completely healthy. If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, or any medical issues, this will need to be managed and controlled prior surgery. Dr. Cortes will most probably request a surgical clearance from your primary care doctor for those health issues that require close attention.
We encourage our patients to connect through YouTube at DrWilbertoCorteslive channel. We have several educational videos that will help you understand the surgery.
During the consultation, Dr. Cortes will explain and show you the parts of your body that are suitable for fat harvesting as well the areas that require fat transfer to provide you with an hourglass shape.
He will take your complete medical history including medications, vitamins, or drugs that you had taken or currently taking, as this can affect your postoperative care and increase the chances of bleeding and heart problems. If you are a smoker, you will be required to quit before and after surgery. Dr. Cortes will also ask about your goals and expectations and candidly tell you what can be and cannot be done. One of the strong and admirable qualities of Dr. Cortes is that he will be completely honest and frank with you when he discusses your options and associated risks, possible complications and limitations of surgery.
During your consultation, one of the most important topics for discussion is the kind of projection you desire. Projection is determined by many factors and not only by the amount of harvested fats that you will need to get your desired size and shape. Basic anatomical features like the current shape, size and projection of your buttocks prior surgery, your hipbone, and your muscle and body structure will all need to be considered. As mentioned, this is a transformative procedure that can deliver dramatic results in butt shape and projection for just about everybody, but not everybody can get the extremely large buttocks lionized in celebrity magazines.
In general, Liposuction is safe for as long as a) the patients are carefully screened and are qualified candidates; b) the surgeon has the necessary board certification, training, skills and experience as well as intimate understanding of the human body; and c) the procedure is performed in a proper and reputable facility that is fully equipped with the necessary equipment.
Dr. Cortes uses advanced surgical techniques to perform procedures that remove large volumes of fat that is required for this procedure. After surgery, you will need to stay overnight at the hospital for monitoring.
It must be pointed out that even with the best equipment and the most highly trained surgeon, there is no guarantee in results. The chances are, of course, higher, but there are no absolutes in surgery. Complications do occur, albeit, rare. The risks of liposuction increases with the amount of fat that is removed as well as the number of areas that are treated at the same time during the procedure.
Postoperative complications include the following:
- Blood clots
- Skin loss or burns
- Unsightly scars
- Fat embolism
- Bleeding and fluid collections
- Liposuction deformities
- Skin discoloration
- Prolonged pain
If you are smoker or you have uncontrolled high blood pressure or suffering from diabetes, your risks of developing complications and experiencing delayed healing, significantly increases. If you are a smoker, Dr. Cortes will tell you to quit at least 2 weeks before surgery.
During your preoperative visit, you will be given detailed and specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery including what to eat, medications and herbal supplements to avoid before and after surgery, proper wound care, when to return to work, when to resume normal activities, when you can have sex, and a host of other relevant and important info.
When you are discharged from the hospital, it is important that you have someone who can drive you home and help you out for a day or two or as needed.
Location, where your surgery will be performed and type of anesthesia
Dr. Cortes performs the hourglass buttock augmentation at Houston Northwest Medical Center Outpatient Center. You will need to stay overnight for monitoring. The procedure will be performed under general anesthetic. You cannot be awake because you will not be able to tolerate the pain and discomfort of this surgery. Additionally, because of the large volumes of fat that will be removed, the amount of local anesthetic needed will be toxic to your body if only local anesthesia is used. For this reason, Dr. Cortes performs all his buttock augmentations under general anesthesia. Dr. Cortes only uses a board-certified anesthesiologist to assist him along with a certified nurse anesthetist for all his surgeries.
Typically, the hourglass butt augmentation surgery can take about 4 hours. Length of time can range from 3 to 4 hours, depending on the size of the patient, the areas that require liposuction, and the amount of fats being removed. While you lie on your back, Dr. Cortes starts his procedure by making tiny incisions in your abdomen, flank sides, and thighs, through which, a thin, hallow cannula measuring about 5 mm is inserted. The cannula is connected to a vacuum machine. The cannula moves in a back and forth motion until the fats are broken down into small fat globules and are suctioned for processing. Once he is done harvesting the fats in above-mentioned areas, you will be turned over and liposuction will be done in the upper and lower back, and the sides of your torso. Dr. Cortes uses the power-assisted liposuction technology on very low settings to protect the fat during suctioning. You cannot have a fat transfer procedure using the Vaser liposuction, ultrasonic liposuction, or laser liposuction techniques because these techniques will kill the grafted fat, increase risk of complications and result in less than optimal results.
What to Expect After Your Surgery
After your surgery, you will need to stay overnight at Houston Northwest Medical Center where antibiotics and pain medications will be administered through IV. You are encouraged to walk around immediately after surgery to minimize risk of blood clots. The pain is manageable and will feel more like those common aches and pains after a particularly vigorous exercise. Barring any complications, you will be discharged from the hospital within 24 hours. Dr. Cortes will see you in about 3 to 5 days after the surgery. Your stitches will be removed in 7 to 10 days. Following surgery, it is important that you avoid prolonged sitting for two weeks, as this will adversely affect the fat transferred to your buttocks. If you sit too early after surgery, it will cause pressure necrosis, which means, the fats will die and you will get extremely flawed and substandard results. After 2 weeks, you can start using a special cushion for 2-1/2 months while sitting. Full recovery and final results will be seen in about 6 to 9 months.
Getting Back to Normal
The recovery period from an hourglass butt augmentation is a slow process. Dr. Cortes will encourage you to move around in the first 5 to 7 days to reduce swelling and reduce risks of forming blood clots in your legs. Normally, it will take approximately 10 to 14 days before you can go back to work but do understand that recovery varies from patient to patient. You will need to wear girdles for about 3 to 6 month. This is the most important part of your postoperative recovery since it reduces and controls the swelling. Patience is needed and necessary. Swelling will take a while to resolve itself and there is no magic cure that can make the attendant swelling and bruising disappear within 48 hours. You can sit for short periods of time to attend to body necessities but sitting for prolonged periods must be strictly avoided. You will also need to sleep or rest face down for about 14 days. After this, you will be given a specialized cushion to relieve any pressure from your buttock area while sitting or sleeping on your back.
Your abdomen, leg, face, back, flanks, and arms will be swollen, bruised, and feel tender, numb, and hard. This is normal. All these side effects will disappear over time. You will notice that the swelling will greatly decrease in the first month after surgery. The silver lining is that you can see some immediate changes in your body right after surgery, but the final results will take from 6 to 9 months.
You will be given detailed instructions regarding medications, follow-up appointments, showering precautions, proper drain care and all other important information to ensure fast, painless and effortless recovery. His staff will monitor your progress via e-mail, phone, and text.
The New You
The hourglass butt augmentation procedure can deliver pretty amazing results and give you a red-hot curvaceous and sexy figure. In most cases, the results are long lasting unless you did not strictly follow postoperative instructions or you sat for prolonged periods too soon after surgery. Do note further that your fats will behave as expected, in which case, if you lose weight, the fats injected in your butt may also shrink and lose some volume.
Most frequently asked questions.
Can I look like Kim Kardashian after surgery?
One of the most difficult parts of this procedure is that the expectations of the patients are very, very high. This can be attributed to the pervasive celebrity culture and 24/7 media presence. The patient wants to look like their favorite celebrity. Although this may be possible for some patients, it is certainly not cut and dried for most patients. To a large extent, your results will be determined by your anatomy. You need to understand that your body is uniquely yours. It is not realistic for a plastic surgeon to be able to transform your body exactly the same as another person’s body. Undeniably, this hourglass butt augmentation procedure will greatly enhance your figure and unveil a shapelier and sexier you. You must understand though that underlying factors such as your bone structure, your skin tone and elasticity, excess skin, pre-surgery butt projection, amount of fats in your body, tightness of buttocks, attachment between the muscles and the skin and other anatomical features also play a significant role in determining final results after surgery. The goal of Dr. Cortes during surgery is not to resculpt you to look like a perfect copycat of your favorite celebrity icon, but instead to give you an hourglass shape and a bigger butt. The hourglass butt augmentation will deliver this for you.
How many cc’s of fat can be injected in the buttock?
The amount of fats that can be safely injected into the buttock will depend on your buttock anatomy. This is something that neither, the patient or the surgeon can actually know for certain. If you want bigger buttocks, the only thing that Dr. Cortes can definitively tell you is that he can make your buttocks as big as your buttocks allow it to be. Think about this for a moment. The skin of the buttocks is elastic. When you start injecting fat into the buttock, the skin will stretch up to its critical limit. After this, the skin does not stretch anymore. Dr. Cortes cannot indefinitely inject fats in the buttock. This will increase your risks of possible complications including fat necrosis, nerve compression, and unsatisfactory outcomes due to decreased volume of fats that survives. Dr. Cortes typically injects between 800cc to 1200cc of fat into each
buttock and about 200 cc to 400cc of fats into each hip.
Is the hourglass buttock augmentation a total body liposuction?
These are the main areas where the fat is removed.
In essence it is not a total body liposuction.
How does my belly will look after the procedure?
You need to understand that the hourglass butt augmentation is a buttock procedure. It is not an abdominal procedure. It is also not a thigh procedure. It is certainly not an upper or lower back procedure. Some 90% of patients who undergo this procedure will still have excess skin in their abdomen and other areas of the body. In this procedure, liposuction is used to harvest the fat, which will be primarily used to increase the volume and size of the buttocks. Thus, any area that had excess skin prior liposuction will still have excess skin after the surgery. The procedure will indeed give you an hourglass shape and a better, more prominent behind, but if you have excess skin in other parts of your body, you will need additional procedures to address these excess skin issues. It bears pointing out that the liposuction cannula is not a magic wand and excess, saggy skin will not disappear at the flick of a wand. Simply put, the liposuction cannula will not make saggy skin tighter after surgery. Patients who have good skin tone and elasticity, have not had any pregnancy or childbirth, have no stretch marks or cellulite will undoubtedly have a very tight abdomen after surgery.
Are results permanent?
Dr. Cortes is an expert in buttock augmentation and his results are permanent. Nevertheless, studies show that you are going to lose some 20% to 30% of your fat volume due to swelling and because some of the fat cells transferred will not survive. By the same token, if you lose weight, your buttock will likewise shrink and if you gain weight, your buttocks also get bigger. The fats are alive and it will respond accordingly to the hormonal changes, stress levels, and metabolism it will be subjected to. The rule of thumb that must be closely followed is to avoid sitting for at least two weeks or lying flat on one’s back after surgery to avoid unnecessary pressure on the buttocks and to ensure high survival rate for the transferred fats for optimal results.
